What is Dimensional Psychotherapy™?

Let's start with what it's not. 

It is not flat.  It is not cold.  It is not always quiet.  And you will not feel alone. 

It IS innovative, sometimes "outside the box",  and based on your unique situation - not your diagnosis.  It is about gaining a deep understanding of your situation and how to create change where change is needed.

Dimensional Psychotherapy is about getting to the heart of the matter and then using tools that are innovative yet clinically sound and safe.   

The idea behind Dimensional Psychotherapy™ came straight out of my sessions.  I found that I kept saying to my clients, "there's a big difference between a 2 dimensional understanding of something and a 3 dimensional understanding of something; there is a difference between thinking you get it and then really getting it."   I frequently use that idea to guide my clients to a deeper understanding of themselves, their behaviors, their strengths, their potential, and their goals.   

I frequently make sure we are "on the same page" when it comes to use of language, ideas, and concepts.  I am always checking in and evaluating your level of understanding regarding your needs, feelings, and goals.  You will understand where you are, how you got there, and where you want to go. 

As a result, I often hear my clients say things like:

  • "Oh!  It was never said like that before!"

  • "NOW I get it!"

  • "Yes! That is what I am feeling"

  • "So that's why I do that!"

  • "ohhhhhh, that makes sense!"

Every person, every problem and every solution is unique.  I have a gift for deeply understanding the subtleties and nuances in your unique situation and then choosing and using the tools that are best for you.  I listen carefully, contemplate thoughtfully, and I observe with an open mind.

Innovative Treatment

Traditional "talk" therapy is a very healthy way to address problems but it is simply not enough.  Many of my clients had described feeling alone and lost during their previous therapy experiences, having gone from expert to expert and feeling that they were just not being heard.

Dimensional Psychotherapy is different.

I created a practice where I always maintain an authentic feel in our sessions.  I put the client's experience at the forefront rather then a preconceived clinical approach. 

I infuse traditional "talk" therapy with new and innovative modalities and theories and always keep an open mind about your unique situation.

I view psychotherapy treatment as a partnership between client and therapist.  We become a team and work together to achieve your goals.

Using Creative Tools

A session with me is based on various psychodynamic theories, Internal Family Systems Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and Mindfulness.  Upon this solid foundation I include new Mind-Body theories and my own intervention called "Dimensional Work" (working with other "parts" of you via guided imagery and free association),  guided imagery, and meditation. 

In Dimensional Psychotherapy™ I rely on your input, my education, and my experience.  Additionally and very importantly, I use my intuition, creativity, and vision.  My tools include:

We are made up of very much more than meets the eye.  We have depth.  Our relationships, sense of self, struggles, hopes and dreams all have depth.

In Dimensional Psychotherapy™, I do not view you as a diagnosis.  You are more than your struggles, more than your trauma, and more than your past. 

We are made up of different parts and the work we do together will involve discovering those parts, seeing how they show up in your day to day life,  and learning about them and what they need.

We will explore what happiness is for you and work on defining and empowering your authentic self.
